Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 23

Arctic Adventure

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • Here's a quick link for to the downloads section of 3D Realms where you can find the full version of Arctic Adventure free to download: http://www.3drealms.com/downloads.html

  • The whole naming thing regarding Apogee and 3D Realms is actually more complex than I've let on and I didn't want to go into it in the episode itself. Apogee Software Ltd. came first, then they adopted the trade name 3D Realms in 1994 for handling all their 3D stuff, but since 3D seemed to be the way everything was going, in 1996 they decided to operate solely under the 3D Realms name, though even now, the legal name of 3D Realms is still Apogee Software Ltd. This is made even more confusing because in 2008 they spun off a separate company called Apogee Software LLC, which is dedicated to reviving the Apogee brand, mostly in the form of portable games and direct pay downloads of older titles on download services like GOG.

  • For those who don't understand why "Nevada Smith" is a clever name, it's very similar to "Indiana Jones". Both have first names which are states of the USA and both have last names that are extremely common.
