Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 81

Animal Quest

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • To see what happened during those four missing hours, follow this link: http://lazygamereviews.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/animal-quest-dos-game-review-is-online/

  • We figured that the 1996 mistake at the beginning was kind of ironic given that it's so easy to mess that up with all the incorrect release information about this game online, so rather than re-record dialogue we left it in. ;)

  • The game actually doesn't allow you to combine mouse and keyboard controls together. You either have to go all keyboard, or all mouse, which is just bizarre. Even though the keyboard controls are easier to move with, I prefer the mouse because you can queue several moves up in a direct line and can more easily select things to get food chain information.

  • It IS possible to coax the later versions of this game into 800x600 mode, but many of the graphics are missing and the game doesn't completely recognize that it's in 800x600 mode, drawing many things as though it were in 640x350 but also handling certain things as though it were in 800x600. It's weird, almost like they were going to add the mode and then didn't. :/
