Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 156

Electro Man / ElectroBODY

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • Here's a link to the page on the RGB Classics website where you can get Electro Man from: http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Electro_Man.html

  • I've been informed that the Monkey Business / B&N release of the game is the full game, which makes sense given the way that company tneded to operate. :B

  • The fully-powered gun is also useful for taking out stuff on the ceiling when the ceiling is immediately overhead, as demonstrated when I said "floor". ;)

  • Some of the level designs in this game are also downright evil. Level 3 is a bit of a maze already, but you have to backtrack almost all the way to the beginning once you have the third access card, while Level 5 is essentially the same level repeated 4 times in the same map with minor alterations, all accessed by using the teleporters.

  • The sound effects consist entirely of ripped sounds from numerous sources, which is interesting given that there's not many effects to begin with, essentially meaning there's pretty much only one effect taken from each source. The sources are listed in a file included with some copies of the game called "CZYTAJ.TO", which is actually just a "READ.ME".

  • I think the reason for using the Christian symbolism for the checkpoints was to play on the fact that you were essentially being resurrected when you died. I should also point out that despite the threat being from aliens, you only fight robots throughout the course of this game. :P

  • The change in the "Jesus is Here!" sound effect came at the request of Tim Sweeney at Epic MegaGames when they were localizing it. The lead designer didn't feel like trying to source a new sound effect and just reversed the sound effect which was already there... which makes the symbolism of respawning at checkpoints even MORE sacrilegious than it already was! ;D
