Energy Allocation: · You need to learn how to effectively use your allocation grid if you're gonna survive for any lengthy periods of time in Space Fortress. The best spot to put the allocation square if you're new to the game is near the top-middle. This will not only make your weapons fire more often but will increase the amount of energy available to them. Place it a little close towards energy once you feel your aim has gotten better. · One of the worst things to do is allocate all your resources into your shields. Your wepaons will become almost impossible to fire in doing this. If you need shields baddly then put the allocation marker between Shields and Damage Control. This will make your damaged system repair a little faster in case shots get through your shields and will also allow your weapons to fire at least enough times to clear out the enemies that are getting in your way. · If there are no enemies on the screen and you have suffered damage instead of hitting TAB to speed things up go to the allocation grid and put all your resources into Damage Control. This will practically double the rate of repair on all of your systems so that the next battle wont be fought at a disadvantage! Offense: · Try not to rely on homing weapons or the Beam Laser early on in the game. They use a lot more energy than they return as damage to the enemy. Only use them to kill low-shielded opponents that are more deadly than they look, like Drish and Heater Bugs. · The Triaser is probably the easiest non-homing weapon in the game to use. It does lots of damage and doesn't use much energy. Some people wont even play through a game without having one! · In battles with more than one opponent, always attack the most dangerous target first. If all targets are dangerous, attack the one with the weakest shielding first. · When faced with a weak opponent, use low-damaging weapons on it for a few extra points. Over the course of a game, those extra points can add up! Defense: · The Defensive Gun is VERY useful and your only means of defense against the attacking ships. Learn which shots should be shot down and which shots are pointless to aim at during a battle. (IE: Laser Bombs and Neutron bolts are very deadly but slow moving, so shooting them down is always top priority, but Spreaders and Vulcan Cannon shots are just too spread out to be shot down with any ease and should just be left to hit your base.) Powerin' Up: · Something important to note is that new powerups will not appear if you already have three in your stock or if there's still one on the playfield. Always pick up powerups at your earliest convinence. · All powerups except for the ??? powerup can be toggled on and off, so make sure not to waste a powerup you want to last. · Reactor Shielding powerups are quite useless. You should activate them to get rid of them if you obtain one. The ONLY use they have is protecting your reactor in case you fight an Echuwan. (Since they can't hurt your hull and will wreck havoc on your systems.) · Note that Shield, Energy, and Weapon powerups relatively double the power in those systems, so using a Shield Powerup while you have no power routed to your shields is actually quite wasteful, whereas using that Shield Powerup with lots of resources allocated to your shields will effectively make it near impossible for enemies to do damage to your base! Fixing Things Before They Fail: · ALWAYS prioritize repairing the Damage Control system if it's taken damage, otherwise your repairs to all your other systems will take longer. · If your oxygen levels are dropping make sure you start repairing the Life Support system AT ONCE. If your oxygen levels dry up you will die without the need for a hull or reactor breach! · If the reactor light comes on, consider repairing it... · Unlike most other systems, the weapon systems will always work at full power unless they drop bellow 50% integrity, at which point they will go off-line. Whenever repairing your systems do not bother repairing weapons beyond 50% until all other systems are fully repaired. |
